Six Nations Preview; Oh Calcutta

Posted by jim g on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,
Where to start with this, the most historic and longest standing fixture in the Rugby Union Calendar? Emotions always run high when this wonderful fixture comes round, the pulse involuntarily accelerates and despite the recent relative one-sidedness, the rivalry stirs the blood every time.

England arrive still buzzing from that historic thrashing of the mighty All Blacks, 38-21. Twickenham will be buzzing on Saturday with the thought of the start of a potential England Grand Slam, massively ra...

Amateur preview Meydan 24/1. Don't Suffer a Jet

Posted by jim g on Wednesday, January 23, 2013,
After a fine start to the year for the blog, last week was a disappointment. In particular Glass Office left its race in the stalls, broke poorly, was keen and stayed on well. Not one to give up on if reappearing in the UAE Guineas. i doubt would beat the winner from last week, the impressive Soft Falling Rain, but a place is definitely on if last week's run got rid of the 'froth' after a break.

Amateur preview, Meydan 17/1. Bob a Beauty?

A good start to 2013 for the blog with last week's Meydan nap Tamaathul running a very fine second at 16/1, and Friday's Dundalk nap, 9/4 when first posted, also triumphing. Also the short priced Jebel Ali double paid about 7/4 to reward early birds on Friday.

It's another really trappy card in the desert this week. The feature horse is Mike De Kock's Soft Falling Rain. This 3yo has the UAE Guineas as its target before a crack at World Cup night. Four from four in South Africa, its last win wa...

Amateur Preview 11/1/13. Flyer can Swoop

Posted by jim g on Thursday, January 10, 2013,
A pretty good start to the year for the blog, inches away from being oh so much better! Nailed the forecast in the opener at Meydan, Lily's Angel getting first run on the flying Ariete Arrollador, however Farrier was very disappointing behind an impressive winner in Royal Empire. Didn't put up Sharestan but gave it a positive mention in dispatches and it bolted up. A very fine horse and should build on that success in coming weeks, definitely one to keep onside.

The oft mentioned but not actua...

Carnival Time! Tam can Nick Loot.

Posted by jim g on Wednesday, January 9, 2013,
A hugely Happy New Year to all readers. After a great break over Christmas and New Year (it was good to sign off the blog with a winning Nap for 2012) the blog returns with Meydan on Thursday, and a tremendously competitive start to the Carnival with several oversubscribed fields and high quality racing.

I hope it isn't starting with an excuse (get them in first lol!) to say i don't remember such a high quality and difficult start to the Carnival for punters, however I've hopefully identified ...
