No flannel from the blog; last week was the first without a winner from the three main bets, so a disappointing effort from your's truly. Paene Magnus came within a stride of saving face among the 'other races', and the 'One for the Road' feature made it two in a row, but still a frustrating week! Do rermember as I frequently mention, to remind new and existing readers, this blog is amateur written - sometimes it shows! ;)

Guineas week this week, two small field races with very short priced favourites though, so not great for punting. With the money on offer it's astonishing that so few UK trainers seem to consider these races worth a go.

The other five races are a hotchpotch too, a fairly standard non Carnival race, a Conditions race, two competitive enough looking handicaps and a Group Three sprint.

MAIN BET

Just one Main Bet. MARKING (NAP) is by far the most interesting runner on the card. I got it wrong last week when opting to take on Frosted off a break. For the same trainer the lightly raced Marking can score here. Considered to be a serious player for World Cup night, this looks an excellent starting point for this potentially top class son of Bernardini. Only had to give best in the Grade One Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita to Runhappy, who was completing a six timer. I don't think the drop to 6F will inconvenience this versatile type.

I'm hoping that there's enough in here to 'make a market' for the selection. Blog tip and winner last time ReynaldotheWizard sets an excellent standard, with the likes of Muarrab and My Catch should ensure the sort of pace that will bring Marking into the race late on. A confident selection even at the likely shortish price.

OTHER BETS

Really struggling to come up with anything decent this week, I'd expect BELGIAN BILL (ew) to go well in the closer, while MUJAARIB (ew NB), a former Group Two winner, can confirm the promise of the last run behind Forries Waltz in the 5.20. However also in that race I don't remember Christophe Soumillon doing 8 stone 10lbs, so that might be something of a tip in itself for the yard's other runner, Liquid Mercury. A reverse forecast might not go amiss.

BETS

4.45 MARKING (NAP) 5/2 Betfair Sportsbook

PLUS: These three above could be made into an e/w Patent but with my main focus on a single bet on Marking to win.

ONE FOR THE ROAD: Bidding for three in a row for the feature, there's a Saturday card here at Meydan  which sees previous winner for this feature, Tobaco, getting into a handicap off 74 (and getting weight for age). That looks way too lenient and the horse rates a Nap size bet for me.
